My name is Ellie Silvey and I am an undergraduate studying Communication and Media at Bournemouth University.
Since the start of my degree, I have developed an undying love for both traditional and modern forms of journalism. This profession now expands to so much more than simply black writing in a newspaper; today, more people than ever have access to the news and can participate in conversation through online media such as Twitter. It doesn't matter whether you Tweet, Blog, Vlog or simply put pen to paper, anyone now has the freedom to call themselves a journalist if they wish. The exciting world of journalism is developing tenfold, expanding to different platforms and creating new global conversation every day.
"Catching Journalism" seemed an appropriate title for my blog, as everyone chases after some sort of news story at a point in their life, whether it be about a celebrity or tragedy. The name also insinuates that everybody is prone to becoming a journalist during their lives, even if it is just through microblogging on Twitter. My thought process is that anyone can 'catch journalism' much like you can 'catch an illness'... (Although I am definitely not suggesting journalism is an illness! Far from it!).
This blog is an extension of the BA (Hons) Communication and Media, News and Journalism Unit and is dedicated to my personal musings about the world of citizen journalism.
